Old Henly started as a hobby and turned into a small side business when Instagram posts sharing handmade knives led to custom orders.

Initially, the knives were made and given away or sold with no identifying marks on the blade. Before creating a mark that could be etched or stamped, the company needed a name. Several ideas were considered and after a lot of deliberation, Old Henly stood out as the logical destination. Henly is a little town in the hill country of Texas between Dripping Springs and Johnson City where the founders share roots. With “old” in the company name, we leaned on history when creating the identity.

Logo Inspiration

The typography for the logo harkens back to an old post office sign, the O-H monogram references a cattle brand that belonged to Paul’s grandfather, and the anvil icon is based on Brady’s Peter Wright anvil.

The result is a brand inspired by shared family history with the goal of fostering community and new experiences.
